We love getting reports from across the pond. The UK has some well-known pockets of leucistic squirrel populations, so it’s always wonderful to hear of another report.
If you’re willing, we’d love to know:
Was it alone or with other squirrels?
Thank you for sharing your sighting!

Just saw a white squirrel in Watertown, ct.
John,
Thank you for letting us know.
We have brown and black squirrels in our tree daily but yesterday and this morning there was 3 white squirrels. Very cute. They are playing with the black squirrels and eating peanut that i put out. Never knew they even existed until yesterday. Location is Bellevue, Ohio
Anthony Randle here, in Sheridan AR. We bought a piece of property. The neighbor family has owned the property, and the property around this property for many generations. They say that white squirrels have been on this property as far back as he can remember and he is about 80 years of age. We have one, sometimes two white squirrels a year. Every once in a while, It may skip a year. But not very offen. A family moved in on the next road over. The man has been shooting them. I ask him to please don’t kill the squirrels. But he said he wanted to have them mounted and put on the wall. I think that is pretty low of a person, my self.
Thank you so much for taking the time to report your white squirrel sighting and for sharing this story.
Hearing that white squirrels have been part of your property’s history for generations is truly special. That kind of long-term presence is rare and incredibly meaningful. We also 100% agree with you: these animals are far too rare and beautiful to be harmed or turned into trophies. White squirrels are living pieces of natural history, not wall decorations.
We so appreciate you speaking up and asking your neighbor not to shoot them. Advocacy like yours truly matters, and it’s often the only thing standing between these unique creatures and harm. Thank you for being a voice for preservation and conservation for our White Squirrels!
Because of people like you, there’s hope that these remarkable squirrels will continue to be seen—alive, thriving, and right where they belong.

Hello Ed,
Thank you for letting us know and reporting your sightings.
Sadly, one of the biggest threats to squirrels, especially our white squirrels, is human activity. We receive calls far too often from people who have witnessed a white squirrel being struck by a car.

Good evening, today we spotted a beautiful white squirrel in an urban forest in Canterbury.
Milene,
Another sighting from the UK. Approximately a 130+ mile separation from Canterbury to 47 NN5 4BL in northampton, strongly indicates independent local populations, not movement of a single individual. Typical grey squirrel dispersal is usually 1–2 miles. So this suggests that:
Thanks so much for sharing.
